Tustin Events: Police Open House & Concerts in the Park

Open house at the Tustin Police Department this Saturday.

Are you looking for ways to treat your Dad or husband this weekend? Tustin has all sorts of fun events planned, and all are ones that the whole family can enjoy.

Our favorite event this weekend is the Tustin Police Department’s Open House! They’re inviting the community to its 16th annual open house that runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday the 16th. The station is located at 300 Centennial Way in Old Town, and is hosting this completely free event along with the Tustin Police Officers’ Association, Tustin Police Support Services Association and the city of Tustin.

Why go to the police station on a Saturday? Parents and kids alike will be wowed by the hourly presentations by the motorcycle officers, the S.W.A.T. team and (our favorite!) the K-9 squad. If that wasn’t enough, line up for the hot dogs and refreshments, station tours, honor guard presentation and more activities for children.

But that’s not all! Other groups will be there with information and presentations, including the Orange Country Fire Authority, M.A.D.D., Marconi Auto Museum, American Red Cross, AAA, Tustin Area Historical Society, Miss Tustin and her court. Call 714-573-3200 for more information.

Starting next Wednesday, Tustin residents, friends and family members are invited to while away Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. in Peppertree Park, at the corner of B and First Street. Free “Concerts in the Park” will take place each Wednesday evening from June 20 through Aug. 15. Take a folding/beach chair or blanket and a picnic, or purchase food from non-profit vendors.

Here’s a list of the bands and musicians performing over the coming weeks:

  • June 20: Sam Morrison Band, classic rock
  • June 27: Yard Sale, ’70s/’80s variety
  • July 11: Caravana, Latin fusion
  • July 18: Vince, Bob & Buddy Band, oldies
  • July 25: Chris Anderson Band, blues, soul & rock ‘n’ roll
  • Aug. 1: Upstream, Caribbean
  • Aug. 8: Southland Mega Groove, ’70s to today’s hits
  • Aug. 15: DSB, Journey tribute

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy Tustin this summer. These free events are just a few of many happening in our city and surrounding areas, and are great for keeping kids entertained this summer.
