A recent study conducted statewide attempted to determine the extent to which drivers were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. This was a voluntary test conducted to get real numbers about drivers driving under influence of a foreign substance such as alcohol or illegal drugs, including marijuana, prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications.
This was a weekend test at locations in nine California cities. The results? Fourteen percent of the 1,300 drivers tested positive for driving under the influence of illegal and/or prescription drugs. Most prevalent was marijuana with 7.4 percent.
