There are many economic aspects when looking at the potential savings of an “eco-friendly” hybrid or electric automobile. Most focus upon the fuel savings that can be achieved by driving a car that does not (to some degree or the other) depend entirely upon hydrocarbon fuels. There is little argument when the prices of fuel exceed $4.00/gallon, that using less fuel leaves considerably more money in the pockets of the hybrids. It’s there, and it’s real. Continue Reading →

No, it doesn’t get that cold in California in the winters, especially in Orange County, although the mountains do see snow this time of year. But we dare anyone to tell us they didn’t get shivers up their spine seeing photos and video of the snowstorm back East! Anyone? No, we thought not.
And even though us Californians don’t have much to worry about in the way of freezing temperatures, we are complete “weather wimps” and still bust out the space heaters and start up the fireplaces when the nights and mornings are chilly. Continue Reading →
We’d like to assume that you were all quite good this year, and were showered with presents at Hanukkah and Christmas. What did the holidays bring you? New sporting gear, like skis, a snowboard, a stand-up paddle board, a road bike? What about that ATV you always wanted? A new diving watch to go with the lessons your wife bought you? Continue Reading →
We know that many of you already put up your Christmas trees, and hopefully you’ve been enjoying their wonderful pine scent, festive looks and twinkling lights. Some people wait until closer to Christmas to choose the tree and decorate it.
Either way, you’ll probably hang treasured ornaments on it, and place your carefully chosen presents underneath it—presents you’ve probably spent a pretty penny on. Continue Reading →
At BMR Insurance Agency, we know how much our customers love their families. And we know that many people consider their pets to be part of the family, and some consider them their children. So we felt it was important to discuss some ways to make sure the four-legged family members stayed safe and healthy this holiday season. Continue Reading →
We love all our customers as well as our fellow Orange County residents, and that’s why we’ve decided to write this post. It’s a fact, according to the National Fire Protection Association, that Thanksgiving Day is the leading day of the whole year for home fires involving cooking equipment.
It’s not a surprise, really. Unlike Christmas, Hanukkah and other December holidays in America, Thanksgiving is all about the food. Not just a little bit, either. It’s about the turkey, the whole turkey and nothing but the full-monty turkey dinner.
So, whatever you’re cooking up this Thursday, please remember these tips that come to you both from all of us at BMR Insurance Agency, but also the NFPA: Continue Reading →
Since we’ve noticed we get a lot of hits on our blog posts about texting while driving, we thought we’d share some interesting information we found in this month’s Westways magazine, published by the Automobile Club of Southern California, a.k.a. AAA. Continue Reading →
It was difficult for us in Southern California to understand the devastation left behind on the East Coast by Hurricane Sandy, especially as we were enjoying record temperatures and true “beach weather”.
But just think back to two Decembers ago, when downtown Laguna Beach was under four feet of water right before the Christmas holiday. Although not as bad as a hurricane by any means, that storm devastated south Orange County, and had people being rescued from their roofs, homes were destroyed and old-growth trees uprooted. Then there were the windstorms last year at this time that were sweeping the Southland, causing millions in damages to homes, businesses and cities. Continue Reading →
No child can resist the lure of Halloween, it seems. And why not? Besides the promise of bags and bags of candy and treats, they get to dress up as their favorite princess, superhero or character. It’s when the whole nation comes together to play “Pretend”!
But because children get so excited about the holiday, it’s up to us adults to keep them from mistakes and accidents that might happen on Halloween, and in the preparation. All of us at BMR Insurance Agency wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween, so we wanted to share some safety tips that will keep both your house and its visitors free from fire-related accidents. We might think that just because we’re in affluent Orange County, where usually not much happens in the way of disasters, we’re safe from scam artists. Just because we don’t have hurricanes, flooding rivers, tornadoes or blizzards—just wildfires, mudslides and earthquakes—doesn’t mean we don’t have criminals that are ready to make money off the back of someone’s heartbreak.
