The Tustin Chili Cook-Off is Almost Here!

Chili, food stands, wine and beer booths, entertainment, music, and kids areas–it must be time for the 34th annual Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off! Head to Old Town Tustin anytime from 10am to 5pm to taste the best chili Tustin has to offer. If after the street fair you want to keep the party going, head to the “Party in the Park” from 4:30pm-6:00pm at Peppertree Park (230 W. First Street.) For all details, go to

The Tustin Chili Cook-Off is the largest one-day chili cook-off in the world. Some competitors will come prepared with over 20 gallons of chili. The 2018 Beneficiary of the cook-off and street fair is the Boys and Girls Club of Tustin. Past beneficiaries of the event have included other programs for youth, arts organizations, public school programs, and Tustin Pride and Rotary Club. The Boys and Girls Club of Tustin provides a space for young people to develop skills that will help them succeed in school, stay healthy, and pursue their interests in the arts, sports, and other activities. They depend on donations to keep their doors open for youth of all ages, and the chili cook-off donations will make a huge difference.

Admission is free, but come prepared with cash. Alcohol wristbands are $2 upon presentation of a state ID, and most beer and wine will be $6 a glass. In another show of good will from the city of Tustin, all food vendors are non-profit organizations–their prices will vary and most will accept credit cards (though bring cash just in case.)

Driving to the event? Park at the Columbus Tustin Activity Center (17522 Beneta Way.) The first shuttle will depart at 9am, and the last at 6:30pm. Parking is also available in the neighborhood around the Activity Center. A $1 donation is suggested for these services. Chili tasting tickets are $1, while tasting cups are $1 each. Pro tip: take the OC Bus and receive a free tasting ticket!

The morning will start off with a salsa competition,  with awards announced in the Beer Garden by noon. Then the chili judging begins at 12:30pm, with winners to be announced at 4:30pm at the Tustin Auto Community Center Stage. **Chili tasting begins as soon as the event opens, and typically runs out by 2:30pm. Don’t miss out on the main event!** If chili and salsa aren’t your strengths, there are a variety of contests throughout the day–show your watermelon, donut, or pie eating skills, or brush off your line dancing moves. Find a full schedule of contests and events here.
